I purchased a Gardyn 3.0 during the Black Friday sale of 2023. During my initial one year subscription, I used credits for plant food. During the latter portion of my subscription, I ordered plant food with every order.
Well that was a while
For 1.25 years beyond my subscription, I had plant food. I also still have 20-30 unused y-cubes and >40 reclaimed for use with my own seeds. The amount of credits you get for a single subscription is far more than one needs for a Gardyn unless you do wasteful full system resets. Then it’s probably just over what you need. The real catch is that it probably would have lasted me much longer had I not switched to a higher nutrient density to focus on fruiting plants.
While some varieties are exclusive to Gardyn, you can do pretty good selecting plants on your own based on their offerings. I will say that their Kale Lacinato seems to be more in line with my preferences than the variant I tried on my, My longest running Kale plant is over a year old and is the height of half a Gardyn tower.
My final thought on the subscription: 3-6 months for y-cubes. Or just print your own and skip the subscription altogether.
